Old Bega Hospital (R.180050) Reserve Land Manager - Statutory Information

The Old Bega Hospital Reserve was established on 30 March 1990 by Ian Causley, then Minister for Natural Resources, under section 28 of the Crown Lands Consolidation Act 1913 (the more recent provision is section 87 of the Crown Lands Act 1989, and s. 2.8 of the Crown Lands Management Act 2016), as notified in the NSW Government Gazette of that date, No 44, at page 2763, 'for preservation of historical sites and buildings and for community purposes'.

The Old Bega Hospital (R.180050) Reserve Trust was established on 3 June 1994 by George Souris, then Minster for Land and Water Conservation, under clause 4(3) of Schedule 8 of the Crown Lands Act 1989, as notified in the NSW Government Gazette No. 76 of that date at page 2643.

The Trust was managed by a board, members of which were known informally as 'trustees'. The trustees were appointed by the Minister for Primary Industries, Catchments and Lands under section 93 of the Crown Lands Act.

The Trust was constituted as a body corporate under section 92(2) of the Crown Lands Act, as the Old Bega Hospital (R.180050) Reserve Trust.

The Reserve Trust was charged under section 92(5) of the Crown Lands Act with the care, control and management of the Reserve. Crown Lands website for reserve managers.

On 1 July 2018 the Crown Lands Management Act 2016 came into force, largely displacing the Crown Lands Act so far as it affected the Reserve Trust. Under the new Act (Schedule 7, clause 11(3)), the Old Bega Hospital (R.180050) Reserve Trust was reconstituted as the Old Bega Hospital (R.180050) Reserve Land Manager, a 'Statutory Land Manager' under the new Act. Most other things continued as before. The RLM has a constitution as set out in Schedule 5 of the Crown Lands Management Act. The Reserve Land Manager, which is the incorporated legal entity (Schedule 5, Part 2, clause 2), is managed by a board with the same membership and under the same terms as the board that previously managed the Reserve Trust.

The board meets monthly.
