Friends of Old Bega Hospital Newsletter 1 August 2018

Two things in this newsletter:

Trivia Night

EVERYONE'S head is chock full of facts and what a better way to test them than at the Friends of the Old Bega Hospital's Trivia Night on Saturday 11 August at the Bega Country Club, Tarraganda.

This entertaining night is one of the three major fundraisers that Friends has each year with all the proceeds going towards the Old Bega Hospital Restoration Fund.

It was in 2004 that the Old Bega Hospital was devastated by fire and it is hoped in the next 12 months work will start on raising a roof on this historic building. Plans are almost complete for the community and cultural centre which will be built on the site and those plans will be on display at the Trivia Night.

The Trivia Night cost is $10 per person and there are tables of eight. However if you want to come as a couple or by yourself that's fine too and you can join a table with others who can't make up the eight. Bookings are essential by phoning Claire Lupton on 6492 2570 or emailing her on friends@obh.org.au. Bring your own nibbles and there is also a silent auction with super cakes. There are also lucky door prizes and spot prizes throughout the night.

The Trivia Night starts at 6.30pm for seven, at the Bega Country Club (golf club), Tarraganda Lane, Tarraganda.

Calling all creative people in the Bega Valley and the South Coast

A public meeting in Bega at 6pm on Tuesday 14 August will consider and develop proposals for restoration of the Old Bega Hospital as an arts and cultural centre for the region.

The Old Bega Hospital main building operated as the core of a community centre until a fire in 2004 caused severe damage to the heritage listed building. The Old Bega Hospital Reserve Trust will seek funding from the NSW Regional Cultural Fund to restore the building for the community. This is your chance to steer the project in the best directions.

The meeting will hear a report on plans drawn up by Sibling Architecture for the building, and the options now available. It will then be over to participants to advise on how best to integrate their needs into the plans and the funding application.

The proposal has scope to include spaces for 2D and 3D visual arts, music, poetry, drama and dance, martial arts, screen based arts, 2D and 3D printing, displays, gallery and other exhibitions, jewellery making, quilting and other crafts, activity rooms, classes, workshops, studios, artists in residence, pre-commercial stage startups: anything that needs space, facilities, equipment. There is also scope for a cafe, sales and ticket office, wellbeing services, community services and administration. Please bring along your ideas and share in creating a brilliant creative space for the south coast community.

Auditorium, Bega Civic Centre, 6pm, Tuesday 14 August. Please RSVP to friends@obh.org.au or 0404 705 391 to help with estimating numbers.

Hope to see you at both of these events
